Grooming
Yes, your Australian Labradoodle will need to be groomed. :D  Frequency depends on your Dood's coat type, wool or fleece, and your taste in coat length - keeping it short or long.  Labradoodles' coats don't stop growing, so you need to maintain a desired length, just like with your own hair.

While the labradoodles are no to low shed, some hairs do fall out; again, just like your own hair.  Brushing is an excellent way to collect the dead hairs and keep your dog shiny and clean (no bath needed!), all the while, you will be bonding with your beloved animal companion.

Thinning Matts

In time you will become to know the areas that your dog tends to matt.  We recommend that your
groomer thins these areas with thinning shears.  It may be necessary for you to purchase a good
pair of thinning shears and when a matt or dread lock comes along to cut it out.  Cut at an angle
and simply pull the matt out.  If it is a large area thin the entire area and brush the area with a
wire brush then wet the area and let dry naturally.

Grooming every 12 weeks, Directions for your Groomer

We recommend grooming every 12 weeks with a personal groomer that will get to know
you and your dog, NOT a facility like petsmart.
Here is what to tell your groomer.  Groom them as you would a sheepdog, NOT a poodle.
Areas in which they tend to mat and we recommend shaving is the entire under ear flap,
from the canal to the tip, directly behind and under the ear where the ear is attached to
the skull, do a sanitary cut at the rear, don ́t shave the hair at the eyes but cut the hair
short between and just under the eyes, to about one-half inch.  Some dogs will matt at the collar
and may need to be have a small track cut at the collar line, other areas that matt must be
determined on a dog by dog basis and we recommend keeping these areas thinned with
thinning shears.  Please remove all ear hair, clean ears and trim nails.

General Grooming Tips from aAprina Labradoodles

Monthly ear cleaning

Due to the non-shedding nature of the Labradoodle the ear canals do not shed, therefore the ear
hair has to be removed and the ear shaft must be cleaned.  We recommend this is done at home
monthly unless grooming is done monthly as the groomer will provide this service.

Blue Power Ear Treatment

INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%

Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every
time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase the "Clairol" type
plastic bottle to dispense solution to affected ears. Evaluate condition of ears before
treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all.
Wait until inflammation has subsided which will be about 2 days.
Shake the bottle each time before using. Flood the ear with solution (gently squirt bottle),
massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue. Flood again on first treatment, wipe
with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which
can be wiped with a tissue, the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics.
SCHEDULE OF TREATMENT: If infection, Treat 2x per day for the first week to two
weeks depending upon severity of ears, then treat 1x per day for the next 1-2 weeks for
general care, treat 1x per month
All of these ingredients should be available at a pharmacy. The Boric Acid Powder soothes
the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to
work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the second or
third you can clean out the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls. Their success rate for this
treatment is 95-99%. Those who do not succeed have usually not done the treatment long
enough or have not been regular about it.
